i don't believe or have faith in my senses. belief and faith are words commonly misused by the theist in arguments to make the atheist seem religious. i'm an atheist and i do not know "faith". i trust my senses because of their perfect (so far) track record of keeping me alive. my senses have earned that trust. faith is "knowledge" gained only through the virtue of said "knowledge". sound like a ridiculous concept? it is.

It's interesting that, in a backdoor sort of way, u have shown why salvation has to be arrived at by faith. However, there is evidence all around u, gleaned by the senses, yes. You can't be a shallow thinker, or a wishful thinker in the sense that u believe it to be as u wish it to be. If u claim to be a free thinker, you're not if u don't consider faith as essential to life itself. You have to look at evidence and reason it out through faith. Faith IS thinking. It IS reasoned. It's a choice.

I like how, in an attempt to make atheism seem illogical, religious people try to make atheism look like religion!
Nice try.

If I have faith as an atheist, you have a habit of not smoking.
If I have faith as an atheist, then bald is a hair color.

I don't want to be abrasive but i see no other way to get this point across.
You're not intelligent at all. To the point where you can't make a good argument.

Slegar if you studied physics AT ALL you would know that energy has always existed. It's called the law of conservation of energy.

I think we are all in the matrix.

My senses give me the information that they give me. It is reliable in the very real sense that it allows me not to walk out in front of a car. My senses prove day in and day out to be reliable on that basic level. This is not faith, any more than believing the sun will rise again tomorrow is faith. There is a history of results. This is not a statement that my senses give me all the information there is. They give me information I NEED to sustain my life, and the life of others. Its not faith.

Not sure what the point he is trying to make is...

I study both Hebrew and Aramaic and Elohim means mightiest of the mighty ones in many instances throughout scripture.
Thats not a good reason. That's like saying "we believe in santa because if we didnt we wouldnt be as excited about christmas"
logossfera, why do you believe it?

I believe it because I have no reason to not believe it. If I did have a reason to not believe it, then I probably wouldn't.

You also have no reason to believe it. We dont believe things because "theres no reason not to" - we believe things because theres a reason or evidence.
Everyone's failure to answer why they believe this proves my point.

At the begining of this vid, you say "most atheists" claim "...all of their beliefs have some reason or evidence to back them up. This is false."
Really, most don't even have a "reason" or "evidence"? I don't think you stated what you meant.
I understand what you are trying to get at, except that your point is already taken into account in the basic definitions of "faith" and "proof"... otherwise, no one could even communicate these concepts pragmatically. What do you suggest better?

Reality is only that which you can sense... and without your senses you cannot determine what is real and what is not real. So based on this argument, you can pose another argument of "Do you believe in reality?". And you have to use your senses to base that answer, which is circular.
And if there is no reality, then your argument, and all other arguments, are invalid. Who cares?
