Omar Mukhtar (b. 1861/1862 - d. 1931) is the national hero of Libya.
Beginning in 1912, he organized and led native resistance to Italian colonization of Libya for nearly twenty years.
The Italians captured and hanged him in 1931, at the age of 70.
