This a demo vid of some Pitch Shifting and Octaver sounds that I found fun using with the G-System. First off, sorry for the added noise on the recordings: I had to record it at low volumes (and boost it post-recording) due to the apartment I'm in and the complaints I've gotten. ;) This explains the added noise and the tad thinnish sound.

I do have to mention this was mainly for fun. I'm not sure if I'm going to use all of these sounds, especially the 'Shimmering' sound since it almost feels too cliché-ish due to the whole U2 association. But it's fun nevertheless!

- The first bit with the gain sounds are:
1) Dry: Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret + VariOboost + the internal G-System Compressor (Percussive)

2) Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret + VariOboost + the internal G-System Compressor (Percussive) + Octaver (60% mix)

3) Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret + VariOboost + the internal G-System Compressor (Percussive) + Octaver (100% mix) [I add some Lo-Fi Delay (+ Vibrato) in the end]

- The shimmering swell sounds after that are all used with the DL's Auto-Volume Echo. After that:
1) One half of the Pitch Shifter tuned +1 Octave and the other half tuned slightly out of tune to get a Chorus effect on top of it, with the G-System Internal Compressor (Percussive), Deluxe Memory Man, BOSS RV-5 some internal G-System Lo-Fi Delay (+ Vibrato) and some extra Plate Reverb

2) Is the same thing, but instead of +1 Octave it's -1 Octave

- The 1 string bass sound after that is the first preset of the video but without the Catalinbread DLS. After that I engage it for a while again.

- After that it's the same preset again, without the DLS but played higher on the neck to get that warped-record-glitchy sound. After that I engage a bit of Lo-Fi Delay (+ Vibrato) as well.

It's sad though, that the tracking of the Pitch Shifter and Octaver both still aren't that good. It still doesn't track chords well enough. I can use chords in swells since it kinda masks the glichtyness. It does work well on 2 strings simultaneously, like in the first bit of the vid.

  • Shouldn't the octaver (set to +1 Oct) serve as a better polyphonic shimmer effect?

I got a TC FireworX and I can't match a good shimmer sound with more than 2 strings with the pitch shifter (it does not have an octaver algorithm) and I wonder if I'll have to buy an $Eventide$ unit inevitably ¬_¬

There are other bands using shimmer, specially post-rock guitarrists... I must say I love it.

  • @javiceres

I have a serious hate for shimmer, really ...

Anyways, shimmer is a pitch-shifted delay. Octavers don't delay, so ... there you go.

  • Probably you can still find older mail in sent folder, no? I would like to see your setting too if it was possible..:)

  • @nurik1979

Sadly not, no. The 'shimmer' sounds was basically used by using the BOSS RV-5 and the DMM and other stuff. I just used the pitch shifter a bit. Without those extra pedals, it sounds like ass anyways.

  • Hi, any chance you could PM me the settings for the shimmer sound too? Please......:-))

  • @Internetpolice666

I don't have that one anymore, sadly.

  • @javiceres Cosidering the routing capabilities of the G-System.

  • @DemoColorScheme Oh, I see. Anyway I suppose you can set the octaver mix to 100% and send ti to a delay with the wet mix also at 100% and it would be better cause you can use a mod or tape delay to introduce some (analog style) grit.

    Thanks.
