This is remarkably good. The 8-bit gets out of the way fast, allowing the song to become an abstraction of the full metal version. Mustaine's masterful chord progression and sense of meter dominate the composition, as opposed to competing with specifics of instrumentation and vocals; a hazard in much of metal.
THIS is why people do versions of things.
