@TheSecretHarp I don't agree at all. To me, you use the word "correct" instead of "historically coherent", which - in music - is not that important. According to this argument composers were not aware of the improvements in instrument building techniquest, but I'm pretty sure every damn composer knew that - thanks to god - instruments would have sounded better in the future :| Some of them even struggled to improve them!

@GiovanniTancrediChan Yes. If the composers *could* have used modern musical Instruments we can *ASSume* that they would have used them. However the "nostalgiafags" would like to hear the music as the actual composers *intended* it to sound. Personally I like the modern renditions more, but if I want to hear the *correct* interpretation of the music, we need the *correct* instruments.

@bartje11 Historians say that Bach had access to a pianoforte, but he does not like it. Well, i can imagine at that time a pianoforte, being these the first series to be built, would sound like shit.

Although tempos are a bit fast to me, still a bloody impressive performance and very well balanced when it comes to changes in volume. Thanx for uploading!

@bartje11 Exactly, just imagine how would have Bach written the harpsichord concertos if he could have amplified it with a microphone and speakers :S

While I do enjoy listening to Baroque music played on period instruments, there is nothing wrong with hearing it performed on modern instruments. Who is to say that Baroque composers would not prefer the bright and more powerful sound of today's modern instruments? Don't get me wrong, I prefer period instruments also, but I am not a snob about it like some people who cannot stand Baroque music played on modern instruments.

These are definitely modern instruments. This recording was in the late 60's before the advent of period instruments.

Wait, ok, I see those are natural horns, but those can't be gut strings, can they?
As Edgard Varese said, composers used the best instruments they could get at the time they wrote. So, if they could, they would have used modern instruments. Don't be nostalgiafags pls D:

@GiovanniTancrediChan Imagine Mozart, Bach and Beethoven having a modern Steinway grand........... I can't even imagine the amount of more master pieces they would've written............................

No, they didn't. Nobody knows what tempo Bach exactly intended, including you. That's the beauty of interpretation.
