This is, arguably, the best known fort on Hadrian's Wall. It is located high on a ridge and forms a direct connection to Hadran's Wall. It was occupied for over 300 years during the Roman era. In the 17th century, part of the site was occupied by Border Reivers.
The site includes a Commanding Officer's House, Headquarters Building, Hospital, Granaries, Barrack Blocks, Entrance Gates and Latrines. There is a museum on site. To access the site entails a walk of 8-10 mins up an incline, an effort which should be well rewarded!
