1 1/2 Hp Fairbanks Morse Z Dishpan Hit and Miss

This is my 1 1/2 hp hit and miss fairbanks morse dishpan. I got it at the St.thomas, Ontario show last year. It was made in 1925. It has battery and coil ignition. Cool little engine.... I assume it is a four stroke engine. I wonder why it only fires every other time?

yes it is a four stroke, it fires every other time, as the speed is governed by hit and miss.

How long will that thing buzz with the small 6-volt down there?

i honestly don't know. it will probably run until the battery dies. but it'll run outta gas before then because i never fill my tanks right full of gas.

on hit and miss the governor holds the exhaust valve open till the rpm drops to a certain speed,then it trips and allows exhaust valve to close and also allows contact in the ingition switch,sending current to the buzz box coil

there is a contact on the exhaust valve push rod that makes contact when the governor trips and allows exhaust valve to close

i believe there is a contact on the cam gear somwhere. i'm not 100% sure on its location but i am pretty sure thats how it works. i'm in canada
