I wanted to spend some time and try out more scripting than I usually do. So, I started working on this atmospheric mod called "Insane Places".

Basically, the player is the only one left alive after the Combine raid the asylum where he is staying. While attempting to access the rebel communications station hidden beneath the building, a mysterious force begins picking the soldiers off, one-by-one. Now the player must contend with the mysterious force and the remaining Combine as he attempts to reach the communications station and call for help.

This video showcases the early version of the introductory sequence. I'll be adding more details to the environment, but this is mostly to test scripting and special effects.

  • Thanks for the great comments! I lost the original map, so I started over with the same basic concepts but with improved brush work and such. I hope to release it as a mini-mod some time. :)

  • I sense the mix of "The Shining" movie & "Bioshock" atmosphere here :) you really have to do with such a nice opening as I consider this :)

  • That combines roommate wasnt really happy about his explanation of the music being too loud.

  • What is it about music from before the modernization of rock n roll (preferbly songs from the 40's-50's) that gives a game that creepy feeling? It seems sort of ironic I guess that a player is put into a situation of hopelessness, with dire needs of finding a way out or through the conflict with music with themes and sounds of love and hapiness. I know not all music from these times were happy-go-lucky, but its the ones that are that gives me that creepy feeling.

  • watching this reminded me of that game f.e.a.r. really atmoshperic

  • NEEDS TO BE FINSISHED!

  • Really good.

  • Very good. I love the atmosphere you have created here.
