Basketball Diaries had a positive impact on my life after reading it, Matt Lauer did terrible interviews back then too.

Jim looked ill at the time. It seemed the ravages of hard living from a very young age had taken it's toll.
Lauer's such a prick. Lousy interviewer, wouldn't even let the guest finish speaking. And the smug attitude was an added annoyance.
Fine interview by the Catholic Boy. With his precocious talent in literature and the turbulent youth that fueled it, he was the modern day Rimbaud. R.I.P.

wow. own up to your own shit. people are so stupid

lol this is ridiculous the system (including media) loves to blame movies and music (like marilyn manson) to justify such shit, because it's so much easier. when in fact they should blame themselves, the parents, or/and society for not helping the kids who shoot up innocent people. Basketball Diaries had absolutely nothing to do with violence, it was about drug addiction, and as Carroll mentionned, "ultimate redemption." But these fuckers love to twist messages into bad stuff just to point fing

Defense lawyers grasping at straws. They would blame poetry for the ills of society. Jim Carroll was the last of the greatest of the outlaw poets and that lawyer twerp has no soul. I read the Basketball Diaries and Forced Entries (The Downtown Diaries) and the Book of Nods and Living At The Movies and they didn't make me want to kill anybody--they made me want to WRITE BETTER POEMS! Legislation is based on this idiocy.

I just hate it when people blame movies and songs for any kind of violence. I just think the parents need to point their fingers at something else to take the attention off themselves. Maybe if they paid a little more attention to their kids' needs/behaviours, stuff like this wouldn't happen. RIP Jim...

the new's jerk almost said Why do you think thats a Different message than what we see Leonardo De-craprio,,,Decaprio

Not to mention, the scene in question is a dream due to opiate induced hallucination, and is representative of how a life of drugs and violence changes one down to their very soul.
It's sad they have to blame a movie for their actions rather than admitting to their own reasoning. " I saw it in a movie " makes them sound so stupid .

that lawyer thinks he has a case but really it is the parents who should be at fault. the basketball diaries ir a rated R movie and obviously the kid was too young and immature to be wqtching it
