My dad had a 63 Impala with a 409 when I was a kid. I remember riding in the front seat when dad got on it! I was almost in the backseat when he let off! Dad still has the engine today. The original body died of cancer. He bought a 64 and dropped the engine into that.
I owned one in 1963, but in Nassau blue and silver blue interior, paid 2100 for it with 20,000 miles. I was 18 and had a lot of fun with that car. It had a 3.36 rear end and the speed in gears was 65, 85, 105 and I guess 125 at 6000 rpm. I was not foolish enough to try to top it out in 4 th gear. I blew the tranny on a missed power shift and drove around with only 4th gear for about a month until I could afford the repair. Sunnoco 270 gas is what I ran in it. Nice car.
