I am a law student. I am informed that the US criminal law is very similar with English and Australian criminal law. There is a law called a Joint Criminal Enterprise. If you are an accomplice to a crime and your partner is armed, you, being his partner, are regarded to be armed and dangerous as well. If I feel threatened by you too I can shoot you. You two are not separate entities but a joint entity under the law. If I kill you in self defence, your partner is charged with murder, not me.

Larger magazines hold smaller bullets.

When asked why he used a .44 magnum.. Harry Callahan answered.. "I don't want to have to shoot them twice".

Now a .44 mag is certainly no good for defense.. too dangerous to neighbors.. but .357mag and .45's do quite well it seems. Oh well... it did it's job. He's alive to talk about it.

@Team1001000 They could have just been running for cover so they could shoot back, and they outnumber him. They could have been running so they could throw a grenade in. They could have been doing anything. The store owner did the correct thing - he immediately sought to end the threat as quickly and decisively as possible.
