No, they land on a crash mat located 3 feet below the stage. After they fall, their instructed to duck & roll over so they won't be seen by the camera.
In my country, the contestants used to drop 12 feet onto a crash mat.

I worked on this show, the contestant actually fall into a pit of spikes.

They fall 3ft into a room below the stage with a whole crap ton of padding. Apparently only one person was hurt (sprained ankle) in the two seasons of the show.
