How to solder stainless steel. You need silver bearing solder. Harris #8 StaBrite is good, but expensive. Plumber solder works ok, but make sure it has silver in it. Everything has to be CLEAN..sanded. Use Harris StayClean liquid flux.

On the neutral flame....I've got another video on that here on YouTube.

  • what size is the SS plate you are soldering too and did it warp much if at all?

  • @floatncoffee It's 1/8 inch. There was some warpage. What I did is use a piece of all thread with nuts on both ends to hold the assembly together while I soldered selected tubes first. Then I was able to solder the remaining tubes. It was quite a job.......z

  • you can make the liquid flux yourself :

    mix Hcl acid with zinc

you need to buy hydrocloric acid and you can find zinc from normal cell battery ( cut the skin of battery and look for a metal part)

put zink on Hcl acid and let 10 min.

now you have your cheap price liquid flux and you can solderin even on steel using that.

  • @uet2007 WOW....Thanks for that tipe dude!.........z

  • @uet2007 Btw people.......Hydrochloric acid (HCL) is the same as Muriatic acid, which you can get at any hardware store......and it's Cheap.......also it is the BEST at removing rust.......it munches rust like you wouldn't believe....you can soak rusty crap in it and it will be gone in minutes.......z

  • Ok, you explain what type of flux to use and how to make a Q-tip. You show how to solder the tube to the flange but you do not say what type of solder you are using. I have tried a silver solder and a lead free solder. However, no mater what I do the solder will not stick ti the stainless steal. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I am using a liquid flux by Metal Works, Safety-silver 45 by Harris, Alloy 95/5- Aleacion 95/5 by Kester, Silver-Bearing Solder by Radio Shack. Help me?

  • @anthonyeh Also....the torch I'm using is a jeweler's Oxy-Acetylene torch....They're about $150-$200...check EBay....thing about Oxy Acetylene is it gets the SS hot quickly....works way better than a propane torch....z

  • @anthonyeh you may not be getting hot enough, the torch in this vid is hotter then you think , you cannot do this with a soldering iron ? what are u using, did you sand? sanding

causes micro burs that you need to expidite the alloy process, the solder actualy dissolves

a nano layer of the steel and alloys with it

  • hey do you know how to solder exhaust

  • thank you for this video. good idea with the separate glass applicator brush bottle.

    ...that's a serious acquarium operation.

  • @anthonyeh
