http://www.blogilates.com Learn to calculate how many calories you need to lose or maintain your weight. Cassey shows you how to use the Harris Benedict formula to calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and AMR (active metabolic rate)

Women's BMR formula:
655+(4.3 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)

Men's BMR formula:
66+(6.23 x weight in lbs) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

  • @Milatis86 No it is not. Look at what you multiply by in the equation too.

  • my BMR is 1353 nd AMR is 2098.

i've lost 40 lbs sice Jul of last year and i feel great.

i got friends asking me what diet i'm on (they wanna know the exact name of it eg Southbeach, etc).

I tell them it doesn't have a name - its purely CLEAN EATING!

and i have people ask me if i drink anything (diet pills and stuff).

    I say WATER!

hehehe! so glad that your workout vids and clean eating tips helped me out a lot. thanks so much for your energy and your time Cassey! Keep it up!

  • @andreagetsfit84 yes it's ALL about clean eating!!!!

  • @sofieloux1 You don't need to workout longer, just effectively. And of course you'll get results from doing a combo of both!

  • @hiyapii420 Frozen is absolutely fine!

  • @bellbelliot It's just random stock music!

  • Why are women's 655 and men's 66? Is that a typo?

  • MyFitnessPal is a really really good app. I suggest anyone trying to keep track of what they eat how much they eat and their weight use this app!

  • My BMR is 1466 and my AMR is 2,000....I'm pretty sedentary at work, but I also lift weights 3x per week doing LesMills Pump (awesome!!!) and I go to 4 Zumba classes per week and take in a couple of runs at the gym!

  • BMR=1,328

    AMR=2,523

  • BMR= 1466.57

    AMR- 1947.55

  • BMR: 1,463

    AMR: 1,756-2,012

  • BMR- 1,522

    AMR- 2,359

  • woahhh... my BMR says that i should eat 2046 calories?? i'm between moderately active and very active

i use MyFitnessPal and my goal net calories is 1400 per day.

i've been sticking to it and it hasn't been too difficult (if i don't eat out with friends or drink alcohol...) and i've lost about 15 pounds since i started college in september!! :D

the "freshman 15" can kiss my healthy ass! :P

  • is it true that BMI and BMR become inaccurate at extreme heights (i.e. rather short or rather tall)? I read somewhere that BMI isn't accurate below about 5'3", but doesn't say what to do about it...
