New students came along to the Rose Bowl on Tuesday 22 September for Leeds Met Buddies, where they were able to meet new people, grab some food, and have some fun and games, as well as find out more about our Leeds Met Buddies scheme, which offers you:

# A friendly face on campus
# An instant way to meet new people
# A quick way to find out about University life
# Someone to answer questions and direct you to University services
# Someone to offer you advice about places to go in Leeds

More information

Settling in quickly and feeling comfortable is crucial to getting the most out of your Leeds Met experience. Leeds Met Buddies is a scheme through which current Leeds Met students, staff and alumni volunteer their time to provide a friendly welcome and support for all new students, whether from the UK or around the world, by sharing their knowledge of the university, its services and opportunities, and also the city of Leeds, so helping you adjust to university life and a new city. It brings together people from all over the globe, enabling them to broaden their world-wide horizons and is a great way to quickly make new acquaintances.

Buddies quotes

'I think life gives you back opportunities and adventures as long as you put something into it. I'd love to meet anyone and everyone from all different backgrounds and beliefs.'
Alex Kearns, Events Management (UK student from Southport)

'I will be pleased to help anyone on any problem. Just contact me!'
Andreas Ioannides, Computer Forensics (International student from Cyprus)

'Leeds is a great city and although it might be a bit overwhelming it won't be long until you feel right at home. Events like this really help.'
Gabi Gaffey, Language Studies (UK student from Manchester)

'I'm looking forward to having a good time and making new friends in Leeds. It was lovely to meet you all.'
Jannis Rikvold, MA International Business (International student from Norway)

'Looking forward to catching up with you again. May we all have a great time together!'
Rajiv Kataria, MSc Finance (International student from India)

'People say the internet has made the world a global village, but I would say Leeds Met has done that for me, I got the opportunity to share experiences with students from Indonesia, Vietnam and Greece - just in one day.'
Noushin Aslam, Graduate Trainee

'The highlight for me was the Buddy launch party, which enabled me to meet people who have arrived on these shores from much further afield, students that are experiencing a new country, a new culture and for many a new language.'
Ben Cotton, Graduate Trainee

'I attended the Leeds Met Buddies launch party and not only did I meet students from around the world but I also had a great time getting to know them! My new found friends and I have been able to enjoy nights out, day trips and I am now sharing a house with one of the new students I met.'
Michael Long, BA Marketing and Advertising Management
