  • I bought the book 'Do What You Are' because of this video. And I'm wondering what's your MBTI personality type, Doug?

  • @SengKiat93 ENTP

  • i am 29, an architect , have been in school for 6 years, in the practice for 3 and somehow ended up resenting it terribly. i am trying to understand why i wanted to become an architect, or what sort of work i should do so i took a leave from arch. and tried old loves like painting and illustration, graphic design and somehow i still get drawn back, but differently. i think it was helpful in that it gave me some things to think about. it's hard, but i agree that in doing/failing you get clarity

  • @rheakurokawa that's quite a comment and very honest. I admire your attempt to find happiness and applaud it as well. The only way we move ahead in life is by trying, moving, doing, and working. I can also sympathize with your description of getting "drawn back but differently". Much the same as I. I wish you all the best and thanks for the comment. Kind Regards, Doug

  • Doug, im in high school and was really confused what profession to choose. Im intersted in architecture but was confused whether or not to become an architect but thanks to your videos I finally decided to become an architect because its my passion....thanks again.

  • very nice speech

  • Brother, you did us a favor by posting this video.

You seem to really care about people in general.

You're like the big brother many of us need.

    Thanks.

  • It's great that you mentioned failure as an important part of the learning process. Years ago, I watched an interview with David Bowie, in which he said that failing should be more valued by people. Anyone who knows about his career, knows that it took him years and several failed projects before he was successful. thanks for the advice! :)

  • Doug, I am studying to become an architect.. I am 19 years old and I was studying to become a dentist but I failed and dropped out.. Now I am enrolled in architecture and I'm into 1st semester.. I do not possess any art talent whatsoever but I am interested in this career so my question is, should I keep studying this career. I mean I like it and it's all fun.. What's your opinion on this?

  • @howtoarchitect To understand meaning of success, you must go trough fail. I would say something else, if you are just an architect, it can't work. Do something else, Make some music, go to nature, travel, cook...

For me, inspiration is engine of creation, and doing is fuel for inspiration. You speak as I think, and I'm watching.

  • YES!

  • Doug, I have been watching your videos. Moments ago I was in a crisis, I didnt know what I wanted to do and I was getting really depressed. I started looking for the thing I love the most and reserching about architecture I came upon you.

You have inspierd me and I have decided I want To Architect!
