I have had the good fortune to live in many countries throughout my life.

Thus, I have been exposed to stained glass artisanship from many cultures and became enamored by the ethereal magic and luminance of prismatic light.

Every image in this video consists of fractals woven around real world stained glass panels.

As in all of my videos, the fractal subtheme is the beauty of natural ecosystems.

Each of the fractals created were run through a kaleidoscope algorithm creating an effect of from one to eight orders of symmetry. The result is indistinguishable from what one would see looking at fractals using a real kaleidoscope to view fractal images. The stained glass panels are real stained glass. They are, however, backlit from the fractal luminance. This addresses the problem common to viewing stained glass generally, namely, finding an appropriate light source to appreciate their beauty. As far as I know, this video is unique in the entire world. I know of no other instance where this technique has been attempted. I hope the viewer is as captivated by the result as I have been. As in all of my videos, the fractal subtheme is the beauty of natural ecosystems.

The lyrics to Loreena McKennitts music were written by St. John of the Cross-. Concerning St. Johns poem, Loreena McKennitt writes as follows:

... have been reading through the poetry of 15th century Spain, and I find myself drawn to one by the mystic writer and visionary St. John of the Cross; the untitled work is an exquisite, richly metaphoric love poem between himself and his god. It could pass as a love poem between any two at any time ... His approach seems more akin to early Islamic or Judaic works in its more direct route to communication to his god ... I have gone over three different translations of the poem, and am struck by how much a translation can alter our interpretation. Am reminded that most holy scriptures come to us in translation, resulting in a diversity of views.

  • Edward Leedskalnin was a fascinating guy. I have been to the coral castle in Florida; it is a magical place filled with wonderful creations. Also UltraFractal is the premiere fractal software, good choice!

  • I'll be delighted to follow you. I did create some simple ones, mainly based on Mandelbrot using UltraFractal. I'm trying to get human forms and expressions. This is contagious and highly addictive just as Ed Ledskalnin and JohnDepew's work ;)

    Thank you

  • I am glad you liked it blackchisel97. I greatly appreciate your continued interest in my work and look forward to sharing more with you in future times.

  • 4.05 - "At dawn my lover comes to me

And tells me of her dreams

With no attempts to shovel the glimpse

Into the ditch of what each one means

At times I think there are no words

But these to tell what's true

And there are no truths outside the Gates of Eden"

    Thank you!

  • I think it is more in the nature of an obsession than a gift but your point is gratefully taken. Thank you for your generous comment and your rating. YouTube has finally populated the more info box next to the video. It is worth reading, particularly concerning Loreenas song. Please drop on by.

  • i am so glad that i subscribed to you...! this is such a gift you have laboured over and then given to others. Thankyou! I would really like to see the words in the info. box as well?
