Need to Know on PBS sits down with Charlaine Harris, the author behind the Sookie Stackhouse book series that inspired HBO's "True Blood." Harris talks about her choice of northern Louisiana as a setting for the story, vampires as a metaphor for gay rights, and her hometown's reaction to her novels. NEED TO KNOW is on Friday nights at 8:30pm (check your local listings).

  • The best Vampire literature authors are Bram Stocker, James Malcom Rymer, Anne Rice, and Charlaine Harris. Stephenie Meyer is an abomination...

  • Harris beats Meyer

but Shakespeare still beats all of writters. :S

  • what a lovely, humble woman. she really has that air about her that makes you believe in everything she's saying.

  • @legallyinsane456 In french, that 's' is silent. And the e is pronounced like 'ah'

  • ms. harris is lovely and I respect her craft as a writer. great interview!

  • I read the first book before watching the series. I think it's better that way. I love both the tv show and the books on separate levels. They are quite different plot wise but as Charlaine put it, the tv show stays true to the spirit of the books.

There are a couple of confusing terms if you're not familiar with the South. Cher, is one of them.

  • @legallyinsane456 Yeah, but that's how you pronounce it.

  • bon tomp?it bon temps

  • This women has a wonderful imagination and great storyteller!!!!

  • I WORSHIP THIS WOMEN!
