I had a problem with 1080p so here it is in 720p with a different deinterlace strategy.
This is a drive through some of the smaller trees in Founders Grove along the road through the edge of the grove.
Thousands of years ago a vast redwood forest covered most of the land and for thousands of years people living here took less than fell naturally. The planks fashioned by splitting and burning were prized heirlooms, and were passed to future generations.
With the coming of the Forty Niners all that changed. The wood was used to build cities, pave roads and even to build sluiceways to wash away the very mountains that form this land. The logging has continued to this day and now less than 4% of the original grove still stands. There is pressure to cut much of that.
We cannot give back what we have taken but we can stop taking what is left.
For a chilling aerial view search Google maps for Founders Grove, Myers Flat, CA. Zoom out and cry.
