Part 24 - Chapter 1, Stanza 18. http://www.crystalclarity.com/product.php?code=BEBPB The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita Explained by Paramhansa Yogananda as remembered by his disciple, Swami Kriyananda. This book shares the profound insights of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi, as remembered by one of his few remaining direct disciples, Swami Kriyananda.

This revelation of India's best-loved scripture approaches it from an entirely fresh perspective, showing its deep allegorical meaning and also its down-to-earth practicality. The themes presented are universal: how to achieve victory in life in union with the divine; how to prepare for life's "final exam," death, and what happens afterward; how to triumph over all pain and suffering.

Swami Kriyananda worked with Paramhansa Yogananda in 1950 while the Master completed his commentary of the Bhagavad Gita. At that time Yogananda commissioned him to disseminate his teachings world-wide. Kriyananda has in his lifetime lectured, taught, and written over one hundred books based on Yogananda's teachings.

The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita is available from Crystal Clarity Publishers.

  • It seems a bit ridiculous to me the notion that God can be near or far - that one can push God away. We are speaking of that which is infinite and therefore neither near nor far. The idea that something pleases God while another thing displeases God is equally ridiculous. This is the language of religion and religion is pain killer. I have no objection to trying to end or reduce suffering, but to invent a man in the sky and then mistake that for enlightenment... they are not the same thing.

  • God already is everything. We can choose to think about Him, whereby we begin to "remember" our ever-existing unity with Him. If we choose not to include Him in our lives, we don't feel His presence within. Free will.

  • These talks and the Bhagavad Gita itself are about how we can realize God's infinite bliss in this lifetime. Sex is a mere passing pleasure. Once your consciousness resides in the top three chakras, it is a non issue. Once you've had a sip of God's bliss, nothing in this world can compare.

  • Part of our path is to see God in everything, including others.

  • Thank you.

  • God has been defined as ever-existing, ever-conscious, ever-new bliss. The concept of "pleasing God" is a way of saying doing the right thing spiritually. Being kind and loving (for example) elevates our consciousness and we can experience God's indwelling presence as bliss, love, peace. This "pleases God," our own higher reality. If God is bliss, I imagine He is pleased all the time.

  • In Taoist alchemy sex is used for enlightenment. Also tantric buddhism doesnt see it as an illusion. They use it for enlightenment

  • of course its natural-its how our species evolved from double-digit celled organisms to what we are-millions of years of lots of sex. that doesnt mean its healthy for spiritual progression though :)

  • Regarding worldly pursuits, I've noticed that one of the greatest ways to avoid disappointment is to not expect very much.

  • Love the teachings as usual swamiji :) you brought up many interesting points.I find the desire for women and sex to be very hard not to desire.Isnt it a natural thing to desire a woman?
