It's people perverting what religion is intended to be. Certainly, if there was no religion there would still be war. Those same deluded people would still pervert some other belief. Religion does nothing. People use religion to fit their own agendas rather than the other way around.
War is an obvious harmful effect of organized religion, and there are many examples of this. To go with your logic, it is not war that causes harm, but people who operate war. Well, that is a matter of semantics to say that war is not harmful but people are. The 9/11 attacks, although carried out by people, it was religion that was the catalyst for that action, which makes religion responsible for those deaths. The Catholic Protestant war in Ireland is a perfect example of this type of fact.
My views are just as valid scientifically as yours. But that's not even what we began discussing. We were talking about religion being damaging to society, and that is a load of garbage. People are damaging to society, and religion has nothing to do with it. You can quote Ezekial and Leviticus until you're blue in the face, it doesn't change the facts.
Here is an assumption: Intelligent Life within the universe other than our own. If there is intelligent life in the universe, and if it knocked on my door, I would not sign up to be its slave. I do not believe that there are supernatural forces or entities. Intelligent design is not science, but religion masquerading as science. There is no reason why the physical universe cannot be it's own first cause. Life can evolve from bacteria. My existence does not point to an intelligent creator.
I'm not about to error-proof beliefs since people believe what they view to be reality. I get it. Out of fear only those who are weak of faith are fools. All are commanded to uphold Gods wishes. The same God who tells us how to raise our children but had to drown his own. The same God with omnipotence who is so weak to demand praises in support of his own self-esteem. Faith is the rationale of anyone who is in willful denial of the absurd and of the God of the Gaps for the unexplainable.
I like healthy skepticism, so I can respect that. I think it's good to investigate and be as educated as possible on these subjects.
However, I respectfully disagree about your argument that God doesn't exist simply because you don't see evidence of him.
The fact that you exist is proof enough. Something can't come out of nothing. Things break down and get worse over time, not better. Our internal morals also point to our creator. This is just a couple reasons, of the many.
It is plenty of proof. More than enough. Something is proven to be a fact by confirming the information that has been given on that subject from a variety of sources. Nothing has ever been verified to confirm that a God exists. Name any account for any data that proves the theory that a God exists. I have provided enough data to rationally arrive at the skepticism of religion. I understand their culture (another false assumption - yours). I validate healthy skepticism. That is plenty.
You have made no convincing argument so far. All you've done is said that God is a fairy tale and then point to verses in the Old Testament to which you don't understand the culture of these people. In fact, you don't even have to go back that far to see how the Romans were trying to wipe out Christians (aka boiling them alive in oil) What does this have to do with the validity of anything? The witchcraft trials was more misunderstanding of God's word. Again, that's not proof of anything.
God is a fairy tale known as the Bible. "His" fairy tale existence is based on spiritual & physical killing. It is not the same as man's understanding of human killing. LEVIT 24:14-16: a boy put to death for blasphemy. A sacrilege of superstition by assuming a God exists. Salem witch trials:1692. We aren't empty vessels waiting to be filled with rubbish. There's no convincing arguments for God's so people attack any unknown component of science and mislead people that the bible has the answers.
I can agree with that. Most do come from religion, but that doesn't make it a superstition or wrong. That makes the people who are following it stupid. This has nothing to do with God, this has to do with the individual.
