17 Kids and Counting, Episode 7:

When you have 17 -- soon to be 18 -- children to care for, thrifty spending is a top priority. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are masters at pinching pennies. Watch how the Duggars save money when buying clothing and food, heating their home and even growing their own vegetables. You'll have a new understanding of the word thrifty after watching this episode!

  • Michelle is such a great mother. If you notice when James was riding his bike in the Store, Michelle didnt Yell. She talked, shes a great Parent! its nice to see people actuly know how to parent kids!

  • I don't think there's a problem with buying second hand shoes. Most of the shoes in a second-hand shop are in surprisingly good condition. Obviously I don't agree that children's shoes should be allowed to be worn down to that extent but I can see why Michelle waits to go, it must be very tiring and time consuming to shop for shoes like that. I don't agree with all the Duggars do but I see no problem in them buying shoes and clothes from a second-hand shop, as long as they're in good condition.

  • That explains why their clothes are so incredibly out-of-date.

  • @loveposh11 That's because in the Gothardite mindset, the father is the disciplinarian and I guarantee behind the cameras those kids get hit. You can also see how worn-down Michelle is.

  • I must say, it is AMAZING how Michelle doesn't yell. Anyone in my family would be like "HEY! PUT THE FUCKING TOYS AWAY AND SIT YOUR ASS DOWN." xD

  • @lana566girl

mostly because they go to Aldi's & various scratch & dent warehouses that don't accept coupons.

  • Michelle is such a good mom

  • I dont like the fact that she says childern dont have the right to play...I agree with taking things away for bad behavior however, childern have the right to be childern.

  • OMG! 1 buck a shoe!

  • @MissNomad428 it's not like they go anywhere with them :) but I see your point too. Most of the time though little kids can go through shoes like they're paper too

  • if their groceries are 1000 bucks, why don't they do couponing? they would save so much money!

  • $1000 on groceries! OMG
