  • Using SSD's with XP is just plain fucking stupid, man.

  • @MyDoominateR So is Vista and 7's lack of horizontal span on multiple monitors. That said, I am on 7 now...

  • my 64gb patriot warp ssd booted my old xp faster than this, pathetic to have a raid-0 with intel ssds and run WINDOWS XP omfg, are you that poor to afford windows 7? at least vista but damn

  • @Argedis This boot is fully loaded with antivirus and the like instead of just a fresh install. This is real world long term performance in a fully used state. The real benefit in RAID 0 is not in the boot time, but rather in the overall performance when the computer is in use. It's not worth downgrading (yes downgrade) to Vista and Windows 7 gives me no worthwhile benefits. I probably will end up going to 7 on my next format though.

  • Is that Patriot Convoy the XL version with the Raid switch on the back?

I did not think the SSD would boot the operating system from the Patriot Convoy ?

  • @spearmintmonkey No it's not the XL even though it's printed on the front panel doors. Raid 0 with the XL would not work well with SSDs because you would be saturating the SATA bandwidth with the onboard RAID controller of the XL. By not using the XL, you can get sequential read speeds of up to 440MB/s. Obviously the downside to this is that you have 2 SATA cables running out of the Patriot Convoy.

  • @widowmaker777 Use Ultramon, don't worry about the OS implementation and you'll enjoy a lot more features.

  • what is music called

  • @widowmaker777 split screens is for office workers. you need a 42'' lcd for your main screen and one of those little monitors on the side for the rare times you need to span. 42'' will make 95% of everything you do better. get rid of equal split like that.

  • LMAO when saw you using safari on windows

  • @TheIrredeemable

The sensible way to go is software RAID the fast drive to mirror to a slow drive, giving one redundant protection against drive failure. Or even better, go for a pair of redundant safety drives.

Striping is a *lot* more dangerous, it multiplies the chances of failure, not doubles them, since one failure kills both drives. Mixing expensive SSD speed with cheap platter redundancy is the way forwards...

  • @widowmaker777 If you use Windows 7 and the new SSD drives you get better performance overall because the OS is aware of this type of medium (you can't run defrag on them, for example, and the mainenance it does need happens automatically, but not on XP).

  • @widowmaker777

    Indeed, RAID0 is nice.

But if one drive were to fail both would be useless.

Also TRIM does not support SSDs in RAID.

But like I said, you are right the performance.

  • @widowmaker777 dude i can understand not liking vista, but i hope your not implying that xp is better than windows 7, cause if you honestly think that you really need to lay off the crack.
