@mrkiky You don't keep a low guard in karate. their hands are down because they are either tired or sloppy. I train in Kyokushin and my Senei always tells me to keep my hands up.

@joshpgnut Karateka most focus on gaining as much power as possible in a single blow while maintaining a strong stance. This could be why it always looks so static. Believe me it's not. Once you're in and fighting it gets really fast paced and you have to either out smart or out power your opponent. In competition you're not allowed to punch to the face, main reason is it's competition and you don't want to hurt the guy. Karate is one of the base arts in MMA also, sometimes instead of Muay Thai.
