@Chimeraniue Yes it is. The point I was making was that some prehistoric practices, like feminine goddess worship - and perhaps human sacrifice - had survived and been incorporated into the Minoan's culture.

Well before the Thera Eruption, there were sharply increased earthquakes in the area--and of course the people on Crete would have been able to SEE the eruption. They knew death was coming & tried to forestall it with these desperate sacrifices. But my feeling is, this was an aberration, perhaps some dark tradition revived as a last resort. Sorry Takarsky, at this point (from my research paper), I only can reinforce your theory. It basically deal with the main issue: climate. I found several words for "rain", as it was so important for survival scope. Archeological (from frescoes) and Linguistic evidence in "Stone libation formula" lead in such way. So: no rainfall > no water > no crops = starvation; that is why they made sacrifice as such. Further, the goddess herself bearer the name of "rain-maiden". Gotcha?

We are not really far from why ~ where ~ when Minoan perform a sacrifice, just read this PDF (free) "The Chppa ritual in the tradtional religions of the Caucasus" by Kevin Tuite. Further, Andi people, "The pre-islamic Andis had a cultic centre on the peak of the mountain of Bakhargan, which was associated with their chief deity, Tso'b"; so "Peak of the mountain....." it remind me Cretan peak sanctuaries and its cult and purpose, do you?
