Carl Theodor Dreyer (1889-1968) is Danish cinema's most celebrated director and is still, to this day, an inspiration to artists, filmmakers and audiences worldwide.

On the occasion of www.carlthdreyer.dk (English version www.english.carlthdreyer.dk), a comprehensive website on the filmmaker's life and work launched May 2010, the Danish Film Institute spoke with three prominent Danish directors about their relationship to Dreyer:

In this video Lone Scherfig ("Italian for Beginners", "An Education") talks about the simplicity and crispness of Dreyer's films and his unique ability to make the important issues stand out extremely clear.

Carl Theodor Dreyer is the maker of "La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc", "Vampyr", "The Word", "Gertrud" and other classics.
