  • The foil shields the pickups from radio waves and such. It's called 60 cycle hum, and single coil pickups are noisier because of this hum. The quickest way to shield the electronics is to buy a shielded pickguard, or put foil on the pickguard. There's a website called "guitarnuts" that has a lot of good info on this.

  • I should have talked a lot more about the pickups and metered them, etc. This was a rookie mistake. Pickups are the biggest influencer of tone.

  • I have continued the mods beyond what I've documented. Because I like, I had to keep going with a mighty mite neck, gotoh tuners, cts pots. I may put a humbucker in the neck position as well. Not sure where it will end, but it plays really well as it now stands.

  • Hoping to pick up a tele and mod it up like you have. Thanks so much for the video it awnsers a lot of my questions about modding a squier.
