  • I did this when I was in the Army too only problem was they kept coming untied because the surface of 550 cord is so slippery

  • @rollerpodger were you using square knots in your laces?

  • square knots, bows, double bows - I tried it all still worked lose on a long huff the durability was great but having to stop every couple of miles to tie your boots back up - not so great I eventually settled on a good thick pair of leather laces with lots of mink oil on them

  • @rollerpodger We are talking about gutted 550 right?

  • what kind of boots are those

  • @bighitter42 He never said anything about replacing damaged laces or not having proper laces. He's giving people the impression that this is superior to the original laces. I assure you, it is NOT.

  • @poorprepper The idea isn't about having 550lbs of strength in your damn boot laces. The sleeve has great abrasion resistance and is available when you don't have spare proper boot laces.

  • gutting your 550 cord completely defeated the whole idea behind replacing your laces with it. 550 cord strength is not in the casing, it's in the complete unit(mostly the internal strands). Complete 550 cord can also be separated into its separate components if need in an emergency. An empty para-cord casing is far less useful than a good set of laces.

  • i got the rockys but i realy want to get a hold of those ones cut like sneakers, i heard they're a lot more comfortable

  • This is what a good video looks like, nice job.

  • The 550 bootlaces sound like a really good idea. Ive never tried it, but i really think it would be an improvement from when my bootlaces would snap in the middle of a climb, or while taking down a heavy canvass wall tent.

  • I have some 550 cord on my boots, I figure it would be nice to have them always on me just in case.

  • @daddyisalwayshere No they are not. As far as I know there are no restrictions on 550 cord. You can buy it from online sites or at your local Military surplus store.

  • are military boots steal toe caped? also is there any sort of restrictions on this 550 cord or is it just go into a shop and buy it?

  • How do you gut the 550 cord?
