Very COOL !!!
I use QEMU for what you are doing :0)
But I like the way VirtualBox is tuning out lately ... And with the backing of SUN now things are looking up !

QEMU is not persistent but it is effective in a variety of Operating Systems and versions. It is the simplest tool for virtualization, vmware is one of the best.
