  • There are good Canadian singer/songwriters, and there are great Canadian singer/songwriters. And then there's Stan Rogers. A national treasure.

  • November 29th would have been Stan's 61st birthday. Amazing to think that we have missed out on 27 years of his life and music.

The wikipedia page on Stan has a good account of his life and death.

    Rest in peace Stan.

Sadly, no. It's something of a travesty.

  • @Xeno426 He hasn't?

  • It's sad that so many Canadians have never heard of him......so sad...

  • Stan is a testament to the power of folk music, and I`m sure he would agree that his inspiration was drawn from the traditions of Scotland and Ireland, in that folk is indeed the language of the Celts.

  • RISE AGAIN

  • A truly inspiring song, as Bob Cusick's story proves. This has to be the definitive version, but I was even more moved by Liam Clancy's interpretation, However, the song itself is a real classic and Stan created it, What a loss his early death was.

  • @Xeno426 Are you kidding me? Stan is not in the Canadian Music or Songwriters' Hall of Fame? That is crazy. When it comes to pure songwriting, Neil Young is probably the only Canadian to surpass Stan.

  • "And that song made made the difference in me living through that night."

What more can you ask of a song?

  • With smiling bastards lieing to you everywhere you go....

I love the underlying anger of this song. And the energy, of course.

A foce of nature, and a one-of-a-kind artist.

  • jesus christ, from 4:30 is the most epic and canadian attitude i've ever heard.
