An upbeat ragtime two-step, arranged by Ton Engels, from "Classic Ragtime Guitar Solos" by Stefan Grossman.

I have the capo on because the guitar needs a new nut and won't stop buzzing on the E string. I think it also gives more "attack" to the piece where needed.

That is my excuse anyway!

In reality, there is a final part missing from the tune which gets beyond the 15th fret without a capo!

It's been a long time coming, due to computer problems, which makes the mistakes in it even harder to swallow!!

Still, this tune always puts a smile on my face and I hope it does likewise for you.

  • Nice playing!!

i like the idea of the capo, sounds more brilliant.

    Congrats.

  • Cheers Guitrax.

I agree that you can get more "attack" with a capo on.

But...shhhh....it also helps with the big left hand stratches!! Lol.

    Cheers,

    Paul

  • Years ago if anyone asked me, I would have said that ragtime only belongs on the piano. You YouTube guitarists have won me over, though. Well done! :)

(I still have yet to cave on bands playing ragtime, though... :P)

  • Try listening to early 1900s artists who incorporated rag playing into their repertoire, like Blind Blake.

Great playing by the way, gangly1. I listen to recording quite a bit. =)

  • Thanks a lot Joseph.

I will, indeed, listen to Blind Blake.

    Cheers,

    Paul

  • Hi C.

I had a brief holiday in Boulder last week.

Great bands at the Home of the Blues!!

Wish I could have bought you a beer.

    Cheers,

    Paul

  • Nice playing and great sounding room

  • Well, it sure put a smile on MY face Paul !

That took a few hours to play it this well I guess.

    Beautifull sound in guitar btw

    Cheers

  • I can't believe it took a guitarist to play rag the way it should be! Pianists all seem to play it way too fast. They must know that Joplin said never to play rag fast. Thank you for doing it right.
