George Romney Brainwash interview on WKBD-TV 50

This is a video of an interview done in 1967 on WKBD-TV (channel 50) by Lou Gordon of former Michigan Governor George Romney (father of presidential candidate Mitt Romney) in which he made the comment that he was brainwashed and changed is mind and stated that he is now against the war in Vietnam.

One surprising thing about this was that it was on channel 50. In 1967, the vast majority of TVs with a UHF dial were less than 2 years old, and the vast majority of sets in use couldn't get channel 50. This race-changing interview must have been a major boost for WKBD.

WKBD had only been on the air for 2 years when this was originally broadcast. On some TV sets from the 1960's, you had to use a converter box in order to get UHF stations (channels 14-83 at that time) I remember watching programs on WKBD back at that time using a converter box on an old RCA TV set that had only VHF channels.

George Romney was absolutely right. The American people were lied to about Vietnam. Former Secretary of Defense for Johnson, McNamara, has publicly apologized for the lies, mistakes and hundreds of thousands of American casualties in Vietnam----ll for nothing. France left Vietnam and told the USA not to get involved since it was an internal civil war and not a cold war conflict. Eisenhower felt the same way. Even people such as John Diefenbaker and Lester Pearson (Prime Ministers of Canada) told several U.S. Presidents to not get involved and Vietnam is going to be one BIG can of worms.

Some fascinating contrasts with his son: Here is GR flipping on an issue, something that MR does on a daily basis. The difference? a), he ADMITS to it, and b) his flip is to a position that, despite his presidential ambitions, he knows will be UNPOPULAR with his party! Amazing! Add to that his final assertion that Vietnam is a difficult, complicated, nuanced issue, something you'll never hear his son say about ANYTHING. Mitt, your dad was a real man, why couldn't you learn anything from him?!
