  • I tell you what Ralph, that lineside shot really steals the show (only joking!); what a day this was - can't believe it's 4 and a half years ago! What superb filming on the footplate; I know how much they rock about at 25mph, so goodness knows what it must have been like on the mainline! Take care, David.

  • @Linesider1 David, that lineside shot fits in and does a great job of showing the regular view we get. To be able to view from both aspects works wonders. On the run from the summit down to Carlisle we were often at 60mph and yes there were sections where you have to hang on. I'm still amazed how Ian is able to swing the shovel at such speed through that narrow opening.

  • Without too much extrapolation we can date this as 30th June 2007

  • @zelo1954 You are correct, I've found my original tape and they confirm that. It just doesn't look like a June day....

  • its got it all, in cab, out cab, fireman (in white!) rain on the lens, a Ribblehead devoid of photters, the sound of course, a lineside view, another steam loco in Carlilse, and the obligatory slipping on the way to Shap, 10 mins of sheer pleasure, nice one Ralph, cheers.

  • @noelist Thanks Leon, yes I was extremely fortunate to get the chance for this one. Lineside view courtesy of my good friend 'Linesider1' whose videos you will have already appreciated here. I hadn't realised 6201 would be in Carlisle so that was another bonus as was the slip climbing Shap, but I must admit that was very lucky as I only took a few short shots, and that happened very soon after starting one of them.

  • Most enjoyable coverage Ralph the variety of coaling, working the controls and your outside footage all making to a top video. How fortunate you must have been to experience the ride.

    Regards Phil.
