On an extremely windy day in the New York harbor with very nice clouds, the "Norwegian Jewel" cruise ship sails under the famous Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, on the way out to sea, at the start of our voyage. This ship is owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, or NCL, and was at the start of its July 2 sailing to Florida and Bahamas. This cruise departed out of Manhattan, NYC, New York; and had ports of call of Port Canaveral, Florida; Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's island); and Nassau, Bahamas, over seven nights.
This NCL ship is was built in 2005, is 93000 gross tons, 965 feet long, and with around 2400 passengers. Built by Meyer Werft of Germany, it is an NCL Jewel-class ship, sister of Norwegian Pearl, Gem, and Jade, similar to the Dawn and Star. Great ship with a really nice feeling, and I had a wonderful cruise.
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which the ship here crosses beneath, is one of the world's largest suspension bridges, along with one of the world's most famous. It crosses over the Narrows, which is a body of water that politically separates the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, and physically divides the Upper and Lower New York Bay. While sailing out of New York is scenic in general, passing under the Verrazano is most arguably the best part.
This day, July 2nd of 2011, there were even more cruise ships sailing out of the New York harbor! We were joined by Carnival's "Carnival Glory" in port, and right behind us on the route out to sea was Royal Caribbean's "Explorer of the Seas" which sailed out of Bayonne, NJ, and which I have been on. It was really interesting meeting with the other cruise ships from this NCL cruise, all throughout.
Norwegian has some nice ships. I visited Port Canaveral last year and saw the Gem. It's definitely something magnificent. One of these days I'll have take a cruise on it or the Jewel.

@murjax The Jewel's sisters are the Gem, Pearl, and Jade; the Dawn and Star are similar too.
