@wendighoul The point is you know about it, pirate movie distributors know about at, and people who pirate movies knows about it. Everyone knows about it, so you don't have the "I didn't know about it" excuse when you are arrested. Oh yeah, they're passing a new bill in the US that makes streaming pirated movies a felony! Good thing we know it's illegal.
@Sukuraidogai No, I am sure they see it, but I don't think it has any effect on them. That's the whole point, since that stupid FBI warning is on damn near every video (and I live in Canada, so I don't give a crap about the FBI), it just becomes part of the background, something people see all the time and therefore ignore. Honestly I think the government has much bigger things to worry about than protecting the "intellectual property" of billion-dollar corporations.
@wendighoul So, you think people who pirate movies have never seen the "FBI warning" on every DVD or cassette tape before? Even speed limit signs are visible to both drivers and pedestrians.
Think of it more like a drug dealer and his many customers. The drug dealer sees the warning, chooses to ignore it, and distributes it to the customers without a hitch. And who does the government go after?
@Sukuraidogai I think you missed DevilDan's (and the video's) point. The are not arguing that piracy shoudl be allowed, they are arguing that showing anti-piracy ads to people who have just payed to see this movie is downright stupid. It is essentially trying to accuse/guilt the people who did what they were supposed to (i.e. pay for the movie) while having ZERO effect (the video wouldn't go that far, but I will) on the actual pirates. It's like warning pedestrians about the speed limit!
@DevilDan83 You got half of it right. The anti-piracy warning is usually on a separate vob file after being ripped from the dvd because it's shown before the main menu. Also, if the government did nothing about piracy, no one would know it's illegal until they were arrested, more people would pirate, and there will be less movies because producers don't want to lose their money. A movie is an investment, which is payed off through movie theater tickets and dvd sells.
I hate those don't steal movies ads. The only people who have to suffer trough that are those, who already bought the film. Those, who download it, are never going to see it and those, who buy it to put it up on the Internet, just don't care and will cut it out.
