Helps with learning the basics until your confident enough to sculpt on your own. Some people do not have instant talent. They need a little help to start. Dont put someone down for using molds, it might discourage them from even trying to create a doll. Sculpting is hard to begin with. If your so great, why are you watching and commenting on the video to begin with? Just to discourage people and put them down? Give them a break! Video is very informative for people using push molds. Thank You.

Great video. I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy one of the molds. I want to make fairies but can not sculpt so this was great. Thanks

@bluekingkongkymm - A combination of super sculpey and sculpey III white. I prefer this mix for all of my dollmaking.

@MelissaDotBartley - If the dolls are posed laying down, or sitting in a fairy garden scene, you don't really need the armature if you cure the clay properly. However, once you begin posing the dolls standing up or arms reaching out, it is best to use an armature wire. I prefer the cloth covered wire because it doesn't push up to the "skin level" and you don't see the silver armature wire around the arms, etc. like with other wire types.

@sakuranzu Yes you can use Super Sculpey in the plaster mold. I prefer the molds to be plaster because although the rubber molds are marketed to be "easier" to remove, the fact is, no matter how careful you are, there is distortion, especially around the features.
With the hard molds, if there's any trouble "sticking" which there usually isn't, but if there is, I roll up a ball of clay and lift the head straight up, then do the same on each hand, foot until the doll comes out.

isn't that kind of like cheating ..seems kinda boring using a mold..it's more fun just making it from scratch..it's suppose to be a hobby ..hobbies take time ..why rush it ..might as well buy a doll

@Domut this person constandly posts nasty posts about using molds. Not everyone wants to be a sculptor. They just want to use the molds to make dolls. There is a whole ceramics business that uses molds. You need to let go and move on. P.S. You never hear the men artists screaming all over the internet that they sculpted everything from scratch each time, only petty women.

@Maglugbel - I assume you are referring to the spray bottle? It's only filled with water. I lightly spray the insides of the molds with water to make sure the clay doesn't stick. I used to use powder, but the water is so much better and cleaner. Other than that, when I get a new mold, I roll up a ball of clay and just dab it around inside to remove any residue that might be left from the drying process.
