Have you ever wanted freedom from your own mind? To be released of all inhibition and live a life free of consequence? Have you ever had the urge to take complete control and teach someone a lesson?

Upon visiting a hospital psychiatric ward, director and head choreographer, Candice Simpson, witnessed a scene that can only be described as traumatic. The treatment and handling of patients was repulsive, but went mostly unreported. In order to pull back the veil and draw a light on their predicament, Simpson decided to express her feelings through a dance piece. This video is dedicated to patients of that institution.

-I usually create pieces where the dancers get to express certain feelings that are much too difficult to communicate verbally; however, in this video, I hope that everyone involved, (both the dancers and the audience) get to completely escape from what they are feeling. There are so many people who constantly feel trapped on a day to day basis. The patients of this ward are the ultimate example of that. They are people who suffer from being prisoners in their own mind. They are people who deserve the chance to be healed. Unfortunately, at this ward, they did not receive the proper treatment. They were treated harshly and aggressively. So, in this video, I hope to give them a night of freedom. Freedom from their mind and from the horrible treatment. On august 11th, 2011 at 11pm, I hope all of you get a night of freedom. Tonight is the night to be whoever you want to be. A night with no boundaries, no inhibitions, and no consequences. I would truly like to thank everyone who helped make this vision come to life!

its genius i absolutely love it ! :O

  • Fantastic! Just stunning.

  • The cinematography and the choreography were fantastic. I mean really spooky, captured the essence and the feel of the song. I am strongly considering taking dance classes, specifically jazz, hip-hop and contemporary. I just love all that you can be with jazz --- it's such a bizarre genre. Brilliant work!

  • This could not have been sent to me at a better time in my life! I completely identify with the choreography which is stunning! The best form of expression at least in my life has been dance! Awesome!

  • This was soooo AMAZING!!!! It reminded me of why I used to dance and made me miss it soooo much! Candice and your dancers you guys have grown sooo much and have really become more than amazing dancers and performers. You should all be so proud!
