This scene is from Zarzuela El Barberillo de Lavapiés which was performed live at the Jarvis Conservatory, Napa, CA in June of 2005. A barber is a central figure of this Zarzuela, following the role model created by French author Beaumarchais. In trying to protect a Marquesa he and his dressmaker girlfriend become involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the Spanish government. Between beautiful musical numbers, amusing situations and great dancing a change of government takes place.
The Jarvis Conservatory brings the charm and beauty of Zarzuela to the English-speaking as well as Spanish-speaking audiences. All spoken parts are performed in English while the songs remain in their original Spanish. Featuring Spanish and English subtitles.
Music by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri
Libretto adapted by William Jarvis

Choreographers Mario La Vega and María del Sol
The Barber by Igor Vieira

Extraordinario! Sus bailarines son muy buenos, Y a la vez tocan las castañuelas, que no es tan común. Fantástica puesta en escena. Buenísima pronunciación.
