Over 100 Conservatives, including MPs, councillors and Prospective Parliamentary Candidates, have just returned from Rwanda after spending two weeks working on Project Umubano.

Umubano translates as 'Friendship and Co-operation', and the aim of our Social Action project was to work alongside Rwandans to help tackle poverty and promote development.

  • @LairdKincavle Then you should consider travelling with Umubano. I participated this year and it is really a life-changing opportunity. It is the thing to do if you are interested in International Development in 3rd World Countries.

  • The EU doesnt even work in the one area that might be seen as a strength - political solidarity, as witness its spineless inaction after Britains call for a united response to Irans prosecution of UK embassy staff.

If that doesnt wake others up to the expensive charade that is the EU, what will?

  • Very interesting question. I guess unless there was a special concession given (which I doubt) Scottish citizens would then face the same work permit, residency criteria as all other applicants.

Clearly border controls would apply in much the same way as they do in mainland Europe for Switzerland and Norway when entering the EU zone.

A vote to exit the UK would be interesting, would the Scottish Government have to repay the monies used to get them off the hook with Spain.

  • Perhaps you can help me on this, since I've had no reply from the SNP or UKIP.

If Scotland became independent and the rest of the UK quit the EU, Scotland would no doubt remain within the EU (goodness knows why, independence is aimed at gaining more powers not having them taken away). But what then of our no-immigration policy, short of rebuilding Hadrian's Wall?

  • I am afraid that is exactly the line that the Tories rely, 'a vote for UKIP in a GE is a vote for Labour'. That simply isn't the case any more.

Labour are losing out mainly to the BNP, however UKIP is taking votes from all the parties. This Propaganda about caring is not reflected in the fact that the Tory MEP's under Cameron have voted for trading terms which mean the countries in Africa are worse off. They cannot support themselves thus meaning they rely on the EU for handouts.

  • you should learn to spell first!!

  • I whole heartedly believe in the Conservative party and they are the party to bring us all to a secure future. I travel to Kenya on Monday then to Juba in South Sudan and I know my local MP Mr Tony Baldry has been there too. A Conservative cares for all!

  • I too always voted Conservative but have now woken up, voting UKIP in the Euro elections. But I have a real dilemma at the General Election: in my constituency voting UKIP would just let Labour back in. There is no alternative really but to vote Conservative. I imagine many others are in the same boat.

  • This is absolutely brilliant! I am a member of the Labour Party- but after seeing this I not so sure anymore. I care tremendously about helping the developing world, especially Africa, and I'm going to Kenya on Monday for a school project. The Conservative Party really is the party for international development and helping the third world!

  • Year speaking about micro finance what could the government do to encourage it more.

    -pay a percent.

    -offer tax incentives.

-make this sort of stuff more selectable through necter cards ect.

    -encourage more volunteers.

-pay to Build more micro finance websites.

    I use Kiva myself
