A single B-side. Apparently this was a solo track on which everything was sung and played by Woolly Wolstenholme. My apologies for not having a photo of Woolly on his own to use for this slide show but I hope you enjoy the atmosphere created anyway. Until I came to write this I was unaware of the history behind the song and wasn't even too sure which member was singing it. I just enjoyed the song as a track on the collection "All Is Safely Gathered In".

LYRICS:

In the shining sun
My images they run
Confusing all I've done before I've begun
And every city scene
Becomes a roaring stream
A nightmare and a dream rolled into one

But when the city sleeps
I'm up and on my feet
Along the darkened streets
Hear me run

Through the empty town
Running, laughing, down
No-one else around - to bother old me
By factories I sway
My shadows seem to play
To do this in the day - I'd never be free

But when the city sleeps....

  • Great song and video! Thank you for uploading!:)

  • Well Woolly who did this all by his own is not there anymore...But his voice and founder member of BJH : that I will not forget my entire life. Bombadill...I remember and everything since then till 2010. This share is double now! Many thanks!

  • Nice work, now a fitting tribute after the dad news of Woolly's death a few days ago.

I have always rated this haunting song as one of his best.

    Madwoollyfan.

  • Great as ever!

  • Thank you so much for uploading...I have been searching this so long. Such a great song...In fact it is a *pseudo-named same band* that wrote and sung this : Bombadil...They also had a little hit *Breatless* in 1972 under that name. I really do not know why BJH changed her name in 1972 and so shortly...:-) Maybe to make everything a little bit more commercial?

  • Great !
