People ask me,
"As an atheist, if you don't believe in a god, what do you believe in?"

This is my video response.

This video is very near and dear to my heart and represents my personal worldview/philosophy.

Please, rate it 5 stars and favorite it. I have more pride in this video than any of the ones I have done previously.

I would like to add, that not all atheists are Skeptics. Many atheists believe in a wide variety of things, like ghosts, an afterlife, astrology, etc. There is no "atheist dogma".

  • You display absolutely no skepticism what so ever with regards to Scientism. Question everything except the capacity of the scientific method. Do you know what supernatural means? It is absurdly irrational to conflate Naturalism with Non-naturalism.

  • @pompousprick

Supernatural is that which is outside the natural. What you seem to misunderstand is this... if the supernatural affects our natural universe then there is a measurable effect, thereby rendering the supernatural (at least the part intruding on the natural universe) natural.

Do you understand that? If the supernatural is outside of the natural, then by definition, it does not affect us. Now you could argue that the effects occur AFTER we die... but those arguments are flawed too.

  • @pompousprick

I freely admit that the scientific method is flawed, however, it is currently the best method/tool we have for understanding our reality. What other RELIABLE method would you suggest?

  • What the heck I am doing on earth? Why do i have sense of good and bad? If I have to die why am i here?If death is the end of life what is the meaning of life? Why i feel bad when I hurt someone? Please tell me ?

  • @rsmardy

It's a little hard to answer this in 500 characters or less. Let me try and sum up the important bits: You are on earth because you were born here. You have a sense of good & bad because functioning in a society is usually safer than going it alone and morality keeps society functioning. Meaning is subjective, it can be whatever you want. The purpose of life is to survive and replicate with a slight chance of error during replication. For more see: biology, chemistry, physics, etc.

  • Nobody can say what an 'atheist' believes, unless you ask one. We are not a homogeneous 'group'. The ONLY 'belief' atheists share is a disbelief in YOUR 'god'. After that, it is up for grabs. We are as varied as the rest of you. I like dogs, some atheists like cats. I like Pink Floyd, some atheists prefer Johnny Cash. I vote occasionally, when I have an issue I am passionate about, some atheists vote 'religiously'. Some don't vote at all. Quit stereotyping 'atheists'. I am an individual. I AM.

I don't think you watched the video... I am an atheist and I was describing my beliefs/world-view.

  • @imrational Got ya reasoning. Cheers.

  • @rsmardy Okay, you are here on earth because you parents made you... thats the only reason. When you are being raised your parents teach you moral, but it may be twisted through your life. Well life is not short but use it wisely but live it full out but not insane. The meaning of life is to live, nothing more and you only have one life so use it but not insane ok? Because you feel bad when you hurt someone is because you have morals, you know hurting someone is bad.
