An explanation of what ISO is, how it increases with the sensitivity of the D60's sensor, and why you should always set it yourself, from the Magic Lantern DVD Guide to the Nikon D60.

  • For emergencies and for marketing. For marketing because it sounds really cool (for instance, the new cameras can shoot at ISO 25,600!!!!).

But because the resulting noise and banding and colors are awful, such high ISOs still exist purely in the Emergency department. Any time you have ANY other option for increasing the light, use it first.

Still, it is nice to know you'll never miss a shot for lack of light.
