  • @toolkien ... Favre has stated time and time again that he wanted to be released so that the Packers could move forward with Rodgers. Trading him to the Jets instead of letting him go to the Vikings was an asshole move, period. Offering him $25 million to stay retired? How you can defend Ted Thompson after that is beyond the realm of logic. Favre eventually made his way to the Vikings and instantly turned them into a Super Bowl contender...without Ted Thompson's help.

  • @emantabrizi Part III It was Favre's job to be the best QB for the GBP he could be, not dictate who the coach was supposed to be or threaten to leave, To passive/aggressively say "cut me" in 2006. Or "trade me" in 2007 when Randy Moss wasn't acquired. Or retire in 2008 but still think he's got an endless "right of first refusal" for the job. Favre resented that he didn't get his way so he quit, and when TT did his job, Favre wanted to be released to teach him a lesson. Being Favre, he failed.

  • @emantabrizi Part II. Then Thompson comes back to fix the horrible mess Mike Sherman had made of the Packers as GM, and in three short years, about the timeframe you would begin to judge a GM's effectiveness, the Pack are back in the NFCCG, one that Favre threw away. And a few years after that, a Super Bowl winner. Funny how whereever TT was, NFCCG and Super Bowls were in the offing, but the reverse isn't true for Favre. If Favre had gotten his way '04-'07, the Pack would be a wreck.

  • @emantabrizi No. How about you go fuck yourself? The Packers MADE Brett Favre who he was, not the other way around. And how did he pay them back? Endless threats and ultimatums. Brett Favre wanted to be the de facto GM of the GBP and TT didn't let him. If BF was such a great GM, let's see what his future brings. In case you missed it, TT was with the Packers as Director of Pro Personnel in the 90's - they made Super Bowls. He helped put together a Super Bowl team in Seattle for Holmgren.

  • @emantabrizi I didn't say he wanted to retire I said he retired purposely and waited for the Packers to release him, that was what he wanted from the beginning, to play for another team. I love Brett Favre but he created the situation by being an individual on a team. Ted Thompson made the right move I see that now, noone even Brett Favre is bigger than the team and his decision ultimately won the Packers a superbowl and at the end of the day that is the point of the whole thing.

  • @workman24 ... Bullshit. Brett wasn't ready to retire, period. The Packers screwed Brett by not releasing him. Trading him to the Jets was an absolute joke. Offering him $25 million to stay retired was an even bigger joke. I'm happy for Rodgers and his teammates, but a Super Bowl victory does not make what Ted Thompson did to Favre any less despicable.

  • @toolkien ... Okay, then...fuck Super Bowl-winning GM Ted Thompson. Better?

  • @emantabrizi

That's "Super Bowl winning GM Ted Thompson" to you.

  • The whole deal was that he didn't want to play for the Packers. He planned the whole retirement thing out hoping that the Packers would release him and he could go to the Vikings, the Packers didn't release him, he played a season with the Jets and did the same thing knowing that the Jets would release him when they drafted Sanchez. The Packers made the right move, if they would have let him come back they would have lost Rodgers and their future.

  • Fuck Ted Thompson.
