Bought an Irish tin whistle by Waltons yesterday. I din't know how to play it, but decided to figure it out. It's only got 6 holes, so how hard can it be, right? After about 10 minutes of practice I picked up some simple tunes (Happy Birthday to You, Alouette, Oh Christmas Tree, Old McDonald had a farm etc.) - you know, simple tunes, and before you know it, I had Scarborough Fair on my mind. Of course, one can't be a professional whistler in 10 minutes, but I think it's a great instrument - it fits in your travel bag, it's light, and not that difficult to figure out before you have actual music coming out of it. So if you had never played a musical instrument before, I'd recommend an Irish tin whistle!
