@Apple2134Gamer It really depends on the CPU. Many models of Xeon for example benefit more from the line method, the 6 core ones benefit more from the cross method as the cores are taking up more of the area beneath the heat spreader. Personally I spread it with a business card or something and clean any excess before putting the heatsink on. In the end a lot of it is personal preference, but sometimes a specific method for certain CPU's works better than others.

How can you possibly fuck up applying thermal compound? If you can butter toast, then this should work too. It's not rocket science.

Linus, I love your vids, but you need to specify that different percentages of isopropyl are fine, as this confuses many people. (70% vs 99% etc) As others have said, it's time for a remaster. ;-)
