TURN ON ANNOTATIONS

A RPG (Role Playing Game), this is the second generation of the Pokémon franchise which includes Gold, Silver, and Emerald. Players are able to play the new Johto region along with the previous Kanto region after beating the Elite 4 for the first time.
The second generation of Pokémon video games began in 2000 with the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver for Game Boy Color. Like the previous generation, an enhanced remake titled Pokémon Crystal was later released. It introduced 100 new species of Pokémon (starting with Chikorita and ending with Celebi), for a total of 251 Pokémon to collect, train, and battle. New gameplay features include a day-and-night system (reflecting the time of the day in the real world) which influences events in the game; full use of the Game Boy Color's color palette; an improved interface and upgraded inventory system; better balance in the collection of Pokémon and their moves, statistics and equippable items (a new addition); Pokémon breeding; a new region named Johto and the ability to select the protagonist's gender. Unique to the second generation games is the fact that, after exploring Johto, the player can enter and explore the original Kanto region, which lies to the east of Johto.

As of May 8th, 2009 a 10th anniversary remake of Gold, Silver, and Crystal will be released as Heart Gold and Soul Silver. It will be released in Japan late 2009 and the rest in 2010.

This video will show what is played when the main character is in Union Cave and Mt. Mortar and Ilex Forest and Ruins of Alph.

Union Cave (Japanese: つながりのどうくつ Bond Cave) is the main cave divides Route 32 from Route 33, though several other exits in the basement levels of the cave lead to the Ruins of Alph. A wild Lapras can also be encountered deep in the cave every Friday. There are THREE floors.

The Ruins of Alph (Japanese: アルフのいせき Ruins of Alph) have entrances to the south and west of Violet City. The ruins are filled with Unown once slide puzzles have been activated. Their name may come from the first four letters of "alphabet", which the Unown inside can represent. There are FOUR chambers

Ilex Forest (Japanese: ウバメのもり Ubame Forest) is a dense forest located in southern Johto, directly west of Azalea Town. The forest's trees are so close together that all light is blocked out, and the forest seems to be in a perpetual night.

Mt. Mortar (Japanese: スリバチやま Mt. Suribachi) is a large cave in Johto with three entrances on Route 42.
