"Princesa ng Kumintang" is not a traditional song of Batangguenos as wrongly alleged over the internet. It is a composition of Francisco Buencamino, a Bulakenyo from San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan.

Contrary to what a Spanish-speaking Youtuber* is claiming, the original lyrics of this song is written in Tagalog and NOT in Spanish (please note that the said Spanish-speaking Youtuber* is giving the false impression/information that most of our popular Tagalog folk songs are merely translations or adaptations of Spanish originals. Do not be deceived. Our ancestors whom these Spanish speaking people called "indios" were never a fan of this Spanish language. Their songs are called "folk songs" because these are written in their own native tongue and NOT in Spanish which they can not speak fluently nor understand fully. Please read Rizal's Noli and Fili. ).

FRANCISCO BUENCAMINO

Francisco Buencamino belonged to a family of musicians. He was born on November 5, 1883 in San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan. His father Fortunato, a church organist and band master, taught him music at a very early age. His mother Luisa, meanwhile, was a singer. At age 12, he could already play the organ.

His early exposure to music was complemented by education in composition and harmony at the Liceo de Manila, where Marcelo Adonay, an eminent composer and conductor in the late 19th century, served as his mentor. After graduating from the Liceo, Buencamino composed a number of Tagalog operettas or sarswelas, including Marcela (1904), Si Tio Selo (1904), Yayang (1905), and Pangakong Hindi Natupad (1905).

Buencamino taught at the Ateneo de Manila in the early 1900s. He also taught at the Centro Escolar de Señoritas and headed its Music Department for 30 years. He founded the Buencamino Music Academy in 1930, and had Nicanor Abelardo as one of his students. He also became a musical director for sarswela productions, and composer of music for films produced by Sampaguita Pictures, LVN, and Excelsior.

His kundimans, including "En el bello Oriente" * and "Ang Una Kong Pag-Ibig," were very popular. His compositions based on folk music also appeared in the Philippine Music Primer.

He died on October 16, 1952.

*En El Bello Oriente: a patriotic Kundiman attributed to Dr. Jose Rizal. Although Francisco Buencamino used the original Spanish title from Rizal's kundiman, he used Tagalog lyrics and not Spanish lyrics when he made his own arrangement of this kundiman making it his own music composition. There is no extant copy of Rizal's original "En El Bello Oriente" music notations, hence, historians assumed that this is merely a poem and not a song. A copy of this Kundiman was discovered along with other writings by Dr. Rizal and fellow revolutionist at Andres Bonifacio's secret chest hidden at the warehouse where he worked as a "bodegero" and discovered during a raid by Spanish authorities in 1896.

  • Philclassic, ano ba youtube id ng youtuber na iyo? tuturuan ko rin ng leksyon =D. Doon naman sa mga Filipino folk dances, may spanish youtuber din, hirit ng hirit na mexican yung mga Filipiniana dances natin. Hindi naman totoo sabi nya. Di nya yata alam na strikto mga kastila sa inter-colony travel, hindi labas-masok mga Pilipno sa mexico, at vise versa. Hindi nya naintindihan na may sariling Filipino-Spanish fusion na nangyari.

  • @cooking4fun: Noong mga grade 3 pa ako sa OLG kami nagsisimbang-gabi ng aming Lola. May railings pa noon sa harapan ng altar at ang mga magko-komunyon ay lumuluhod doon. Hindi kaagad tinanggal iyon after Vatican II ng mga pari ng OLG na during that time (late 1970's) ay matatanda na kaya pinapaluhod ang tao sa pagtanggap ng katawan ni Cristo.
