Danny is a 15 year old orphan who lives by himself in a small village in Malawi. Before Danny was born, his mother was mentally ill, would beg around the streets of the town of Zomba. People abused her physically. Through this abuse she eventually got pregnant - the second child born to her was Danny. After many years of abuse she ended up dying, most likely of AIDS. This left Danny and his older sister to fend for themselves.
Not having any relatives who could take them in, nor any resources or options, Danny's sister became a prostitute to make some money to survive. Danny was taken by some people who made him work in the markets. He had to drop out of school, and the only place where he could sleep was in the markets themselves. Things finally took a turn in Danny's life when the Passion Center for Children found him. Danny began to receive meals every day, as well as clothes and blankets, and he was placed back in school, where he is in Standard 3 (Similar to 3rd grade). He is now very happy and grateful to have an opportunity to go back to school, to be cared for , to have a chance to play sing and dance and be a child.
