Music and words by Jimmy Webb.
I have been performing this song at various places over the years and it is one of my all time favorite songs. This morning, I happened to catch a video James Taylor performing this live in Stockridge, MA on 9/15/08 for Good Morning America. His cover version of this is great. A side note: I met Jimmy Webb who composed this song at a book signing a number of years ago, and he told me the song was inspired by a man working up on the power lines in Wichita while he was down there. (Like many, I used to think the song was about a railway man; not so.)
Anyway, I hope you like my version.

  • At the risk of sounding like a big dork, Glen Cambell covered some gorgeous stuff. Unfortunately, like Elton, he might only be remembered for stuff like Rhinestone Cowboy. David, thanks for keeping this beautiful music alive!

  • Yeah, some of Glen's best cover versions were songs like "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston" written by the great songster Jimmy Webb. Thanks for the kind comment...
