Why do the Great Lakes Steam Ships have a House forward and a house totaly aft? Is it perhaps to get a better veiw of whats going on around it?

This is the second best recording I've ever heard of this piece. The best on youtube though. The best I've heard was a recording my band director got for us to "copy". But hey, very nice!
